Compliance, ADA
Important Questions
- Are doors equipped with handicap accessible equipment?

LEVER LOCKS
Available Brands: Corbin Russwin, Sargent, Schlage, Arrow, LSDA, Marks
For door handle requirements, the ADA says that operable parts shall be operable with one hand and shall not require tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist. In general terms, lever locks are ADA-compliant, and knobs are not. IDN stocks a variety of lever locks with various functions for various areas within a facility, including bathrooms, closets, storage, and more.

THRESHOLDS
ADA compliance focuses on threshold height and thickness because improper use can bar a person from using a mobility aid (e.g., wheelchair) from entering or exiting an area. A traditional threshold runs across the bottom of an entry door opening to cover seams and provides a seal underneath the door to protect the building from drafts. A low threshold provides the same function and is designed lower to the ground to comply with ADA requirements.

POWER DOOR OPERATORS
Available Brands: Norton, LCN, Record
Electro-mechanical low-energy swing door operators are designed to automate swing doors in ADA barrier-free access situations. Low-energy operators come loaded with features while offering a quiet, dependable operation. Operators can be used to automate swinging doors in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living homes, restrooms, and more. Doors equipped with low-energy operators can be opened manually or through the use of a “knowing act” device (i.e., push button, remote, or touchless wave-to-open actuator).
Compliance, Fire & Life Safety
Important Questions
- Are the doors equipped with panic hardware or fire exit hardware?
- Are the doors within your facility fire rated?
- Are the doors compliant to fire door regulations?
- Are the stairwells offering the proper electrified hardware in case of emergency egress?
- Does the facility have doors with gaps that compromise the integrity of the fire door opening?

GAP GUARD FIRE DOOR COMPLIANT GAP FILLERS
Proper gap tolerances ensure that a fire door will perform as intended. Gaps that are outside of tolerance can lead to compromised fire door integrity in a fire situation as well as not allowing the fire door latching mechanism to engage fully as it is required to do by regulatory code.
Door Hardware, Electronic
Important Considerations
- Is staff alerted by unauthorized ingress or egress to restricted areas or private living quarters?
- Does staff carry ID Badges/Access Control Credentials with audit trail?
- Are other entrances equipped with access control products where key cards or other similar items are
used to access the building?
